U14s begin with derby win!

Ballyhegan U14 boys got their league campaign off to the perfect start with a hard fought win
against Tir Na Og on Tuesday past.

Played in Portadown this was the first league game of the season and having won 2 out of their
3 pre- season games the players and management team had been looking forward to getting off
to a good start. Played on the full sized pitch the management had to make some last minute
team changes which seemed to affect the team as they were slow to get started and with almost
the first attack of the game Tir Na Og scored a quick goal.

To their credit the Davitts didn’t let this affect them and with defence and midfield very much on
top and supplying good quality ball into the forward line they soon settled into their stride and
dominated the rest of the first half. At half time they went in 1-09 to 1-02 in front.

Playing up the hill into a breeze the players knew they still had a lot to do in the second half and
after an early goal for Ballyhegan it seemed as the game was beyond Tir Na Og. As the game
entered the final quarter the Portadown boys got 2 quick goals which brought them right back
into the game. Again the Davitts responded and playing good quick direct ball they raised their
game and scored 3 unanswered points to see the game out. Final score Ballyhegan 2-13, Tir
Na Og 3-6. Both management and players were delighted to get off to winning ways and the
team can be rightly proud of their efforts. The game was excellently refereed by Kevin Gallogly.
