U 14 Girls Match

Ballyhegan Park 10th May 2012.

Ballyhegan V Silverbridge

The girl’s second home match was held on a sticky pitch but thankfully the rain held off. Silverbridge started well and in the first couple of minutes they sent a long ball into the danger area and an unlucky bounce resulted in an early goal. The visitor’s midfield were winning possession too easily and a further point extended their lead. The Davitts midfield and half back line started to come into the game and a flowing move up field resulted in a well taken point by Sinead Donaghy. Ballyhegan were starting to dominate Silverbridge all over the pitch now and for the last 10 minutes of the half peppered the Silverbridge goal, Niamh McGrane’s hard work resulted in a well deserved goal and Ciara McGrane followed up with two great points from play. The half finished with a point from the industrious midfielder Lauren O’Gorman and the home side went in at the break up 1-4 to 1-1.

The pattern of the first half continued in the second and the Davitts made a blistering start with another goal from the full forward Niamh McGrane in the first minute. Two minutes later a free kick from the right wing was sent towards the goal and Niamh McGrane completed her hat-trick with a sharp finish. Silverbridge came back strong but the Davitts half backs and full backs held firm. Ciara McGrane relieved the pressure with a point from distance, a further point from Niamh McGrane and a goal from Alisha McGowan completed the Davitts scoring. The visitors to their credit continued to press to get back into the game and although they struck two points in the second half the Davitts defence held firm, helped by two fine point blank saves from Jo Malone in goal.

Final Score, Ballyhegan Davitts 4-6         Silverbridge 1-3
