Senior Ladies Intermediate Championship

Granemore St Mary’s v Ballyhegan Davitt's

Ballyhegan's senior ladies made the journey south to Granemore on Saturday evening to play the hosts in the first round of the Intermediate Ladies Championship.

Davitt's had an incredible start scoring two goals inside the opening three minutes. First Laura Forker reacted first to her own effort off the post, collecting the ball and driving it to the net.

Next, centre forward Laura McKeever played live-wire full forward Hayley McCann through on goal, and a neat finish followed.

Granemore replied with a point from play a minute later, but Alanna Finn restored the early six point advantage finishing well with a point, after a nice run.

Ballyhegan's wing-back Ciara McKeever executed a superb block stopping an almost certain score approaching the half way point in the first half, and excellent work from Catherine McCormack set up the dangerous Alanna Finn for her second point.

Granemore got their second point two minutes later, before Ballyhegan's Laura Forker converted a free kick and Clodagh McCann started and finished a move; fielding a high ball, before collecting a return one two pass from Hayley McCann and kicking between the posts. Davitt's now seven in front with ten minutes remaining in the first half.

Ballyhegan's 'experienced' defenders Carol McCann and Catherine McCormack superbly forced a turnover, as another goal chance developed for Granemore.

Hayley McCann scored a point from an accurate Lisa Knox pass, and Granemore got another point from play with five first half minutes to go.

Ballyhegan's Alanna Finn extended the visitors advantage, tagging on another two points before the half time whistle, Hayley McCann setting up the first and the second was one of the points of the game. Brenda McCormack and Ciara McKeever building possession from defence, and Laura McKeever showing great vision to find Alanna's clever run, the neat finish reward for a a real team effort.

Half Time: Granemore 0.03 - Ballyhegan 2.07

Alanna Finn's fifth point came at the end of another nice move again involving full back Brenda McCormack and a nice dummy from Laura McKeever, before Lisa Knox found Hayley McCann in space to smash her second goal of the game.

Laura Forker converted another free kick for a foul on Laura McKeever, and Lisa Knox kicked a well deserved goal finishing a move started by Catherine McCormack's turnover in defence & excellent support play from Ciara McKeever, to produce an overlap. The impressive Davitt's ladies putting the result beyond doubt after only five second half minutes.

Laura Forker converted a massive free kick from just inside the 45m line, and Clodagh McCann and Alanna Finn added another two points from play, Davitts now leading by twenty, entering the final quarter of the game.

Forker then scored a goal directly from a free kick, as the Granemore keeper misjudged the high ball and the ever available Alanna Finn kicked over her seventh point off the game all from play.

Tormentor in chief Hayley McCann then kicked her third and fourth goals of the game and a point from play, Catherine McCormack, Ciara McKeever, Clodagh McCann and Laura McKeever involved in creating the chances.

The Granemore girls kicked a consolation goal in the closing stages of the game.

Full Time: Granemore 1.03 - Ballyhegan 7.14

A devastating display from Senior Ladies of Ballyhegan, sending their loyal support home purring at their performance.

In defence sisters Brenda and Catherine McCormack were very influential turning over possession and starting attacks all evening. Ciara McKeever and Eimear Murray's support play from defence was a strong feature of the game also.

In midfield, both our county representatives performed well, the link play and tireless running of Lisa Knox particularly eye catching, rewarded with a super goal. Whilst Clodagh McCann's reading of the game and knack of popping up in the right place at the right time was rewarded, as she took her two points well.

In attack Laura McKeever & Laura Forker were prominent suppliers, but the deadly duo of Alanna Finn & Hayley McCann were responsible for 4.09 between them – incredible!

The semi finals await...
