Monday evening saw the beginning of the 2011 season for Davitts Minors, with their opening league match against Maghery at Ballyhegan Park.

The first half belonged to Maghery on the scoresheet as they accumulated 1-7 for a half-time total of 10 pts while the Davitts managed, Conal Gallagher (2) & Philip Kelly (3) respectively.
Half-time saw management make a few tactical moves on the field and the impact was instant with Philip Kelly slotting an early point and Conor Loughran also getting on the scoresheet with a fine point.

Maghery slotted over another point themselves, but Ballyhegan were in the ascendancy and a Conal Gallagher brace and another point from Philip Kelly saw Ballyhegan close to within one of the lead.
Maghery to their credit continued to create chances and some fine work in the Davitts nets from Mark Devlin kept them at bay as they searched for a major score. Also, fine work from Corey Edgar, Patrick Marley and Matthew McCann in the defensive line held back the Maghery scoring threat.

The loss of Cormac Fearon to injury in the middle of the park upset the Davitts balance and Maghery scored an opportunist goal to take them 4 in front and followed this up with 2 fine points to finish on a scoreline of
2-10. The introduction of Shane Morgan and James McKeever settled the Davitts as they reorganised and a final flourish yielded points from Philip Kelly and Shane Morgan and saw the Maghery crossbar hit and a goal shot go narrowly wide.

Final score: Davitts 0-12 Maghery 2-10 (16)
A disappointing result but there were many positives particularly the performance of Mark Devlin in nets and Patrick Marley on the right wing.
The starting lineout for Ballyhegan was:
M Devlin, C Edgar, M Hamill, A McNally, M McCann, P Marley, C Fearon, C McCann, P Kelly, B Quinn, C Gallagher, F Hamill &
