Lisummon v Ballyhegan 2/8/15

Ballyhegan travelled to Lissummon on Sunday hoping to build on Tuesday past's victory over Tullysaran and go in to the break before the Championship in a fortnight with another victory under their belts.
They got off to a great start going 3 points up without reply in the opening 6 minutes. Paddy Marley opened the scoring with a free kick in the first minute. Wing half forward James McKeever added the Davitts second on 5 minutes with Jack Rafferty hitting a fine effort from the right hand side just a minute later. The hosts got off the mark on 9 minutes from a free kick to reduce the gap. A quick kickout long down the field from 'keeper Jonny McKeever on the resulting kick out led immediately to a free kick from a scorable position which Paddy Marley duely dispatched, as he did 5 minutes later when presented with another opportunity. Lissummon pulled another one back with a free kick on 18 minutes to which the Davitts replied straight away with a huge score from Mark Hughes from over 50 yards out. Again, Lissummon pulled another back, this time from play before a key moment in the game when marauding half back Conor Loughran took advantage of a goalkeeping error to put the ball in the net from close range.

Half time: Lissummon 0-03 Ballyhegan 1-06

Lissummon started the second half strong, taking the first two points both from free kicks, one on 32 minutes and the other 4 minutes later. The visitors replied with two of their own, James McKeever with his second of the game and Paddy Marley with his fourth free kick. The team then traded points over the next 15 minutes. Lissummon hit first with Marley replying from another dead ball. The hosts hit back with a free kick of their own before Jack Rafferty added his second of the game to open up a six-point lead going into the last few minutes. Lissummon managed to tag on another 2 points but couldnt find the goal they needed.

Full time: Lissummon 0-09 Ballyhegan 1-10

A decent performance from the Davitts though they will feel there are areas for improvement to be worked on before facing Clonmore in the Championship on Friday 14th August in Tullysaran.

Ballyhegan team lined out as follows: J McKeever (c), R McCormick, M McKeever, J Murphy, C Loughran 1-00 (M Courtney 49), A Morgan, T Keegan (S McNally 49), M Hughes 0-01, J Rafferty 0-02, J McKeever 0-02 (G Morgan 51), S McKeever, R McKeever (T Reynolds HT), P Marley 0-05 (5f), S McCormack (J Guy 17)(C Williamson HT), D McKeever
