Ballyhegan Davitts v Collegeland O'Rahillys

Ballyhegan played their first home league game of the season on Sunday hosting neighbours Collegeland in this local derby. The sun was shining though there was a strong wind blowing up the field which the Davitts played with in the first half.

Ballyhegan started brightly going 3 points up within 5 mins and also had 2 good goal opportunities. Corner forward Eoin Reynolds registered the first point followed by another from Plunkett McCormack receiving a well spotted pass from a quick sideline ball by Gerard Morgan. Conor Williamson added the third less than a minute later with a great break from midfield.
The visitors replied with 2 pointed frees before Ballyhegan added another 2 points to the board from Plunkett McCormack and centre half forward John Guy, both of which were supplied from Mark Hughes in midfield however another goal chance went agonisingly wide in between these 2 points. Following great work in defence the Davitts then broke up the field for Plunkett McCormack to register his third point of the game.
Collegeland added 2 more frees either side of Shane McCormack combining well with brother Plunkett and splitting the post with the outside of his boot. The hosts then added 2 frees of their own, one from the left from Eoin Reynolds and the other from the opposite side from Plunkett McCormack, and another from play with Reynolds beating his man and finishing over the bar well. Collegeland registered one more point to bring the half to a close.

Half time: Ballyhegan 0-10 Collegeland 0-05

Playing with the wind now Collegeland came out strong for the second half hitting 1-05 before the Davitts could hit back after 15 mins through a Mark Hughes free.
The visitors then added 2 more goals in quick succession with less than 10 minutes to play to which Ballyhegan could only reply with 2 points from frees, another from Mark Hughes and one from Paddy Marley.

Full time: Ballyhegan 0-13 Collegeland 3-10

Once again this was another very disappointing defeat for the Davitts. Following an excellent first half with some great periods of play and hard work, particularly from wing forwards Gerard Morgan and James McKeever, Ballyhegan never got going in the second half and seemed stunned by a blistering opening 10mins from the visitors.
Hopefully now with a 2 week break for Easter the boys can re-group, welcome back injured players and get off the mark in the next game against Corrinshego.

Ballyhegan team lined out as follows:
Jonny McKeever, R. Tiffney (M. Hamill 44), R. McCormick, R. McKeever, C. Loughran, J. Murphy (C), C. Morgan, C. Williamson 0-01, M. Hughes 0-02 (2f), G. Morgan, J. Guy 0-01 (P. Marley 36, 0-01 (1f), James McKeever, S. McCormack 0-01, P. McCormack 0-04 (1f), E. Reynolds 0-03 (1f) (D.McNeill 55)
