Intermediate League

Clann Eireann v Ballyhegan Davitts

Ballyhegan travelled to Lurgan on Friday night to face fellow Division two strugglers Clann Eireann, both sides in dire need of the league points!

A miserable evening weather-wise, was matched on the field, as a mistake ridden first half made for difficult viewing, particularly for the faithful Ballyhegan support!

Eoin Reynolds came closest to scoring for the Davitts in the opening half, hitting the post early on from a narrow angle.

Clann Eireann had an excellent chance to take the lead from the penalty spot, after five minutes, but Davitts net-minder Jonny McKeever performed another trademark stop, diving to the right and getting a strong left hand to keep the ball out of the net - the highlight of the game!

The hosts opened the scoring from a free kick in the nineteenth minute, and tagged over another two points from play, three points in three minutes, starting and finishing the first half scoring.

Paul Courtney had a long free kick that also hit the post late in the half.

Half Time: Clann Eireann 0.03 Ballyhegan 0.00

Ballyhegan started the second half quite well, scoring two points in the opening five minutes. First Mark Hughes dropped the ball over the bar from 30 metres, Shane McKeever delivering the final pass after selling two dummies to Clann Eireann defenders. Then Paddy Marley converted a free kick following a push on Mark Hughes, just as he was about to shoot.

The hosts dominated the remainder of the game, kicking 6 points, five from play, to run out comfortable winners in the end, although the final score came from the Davitts, in the final minute of the game Joey Murphy burst forward from the half back line, breaking a tackle & played a one-two with Paul Courtney before setting up Jack Wilson, who finished well from range, the difference seven points at the finish.

FullTime: Clann Eireann 0.10 Ballyhegan 0.03

Positives from Friday evening aren't so easy to identify, but Jonny McKeever was the stand out performer for Ballyhegan. Roger McCormack made an impact in defence, whilst the return of club captain John Guy was a big plus!

Fortunately the lads don't have long to wait till respond as Madden visit Ballyehgan Park on Sunday!

Ballyhegan Team lined out as follows:

Jonny McKeever, M. McKeever, C. Morgan, T. Keegan, C. Loughran, P. McCormack, J. Murphy, P. Courtney, J. Wilson 0.01, P. Marley 0.01 (1f), M. Hughes 0.01, E. Reynolds, G. Morgan 1.00 (J. Rafferty, 43), James McKeever (M. Hamill, 50), S. McKeever (J. Guy, 54)
