Ballyhegan 0-08 Keady 0-12

Ballyhegan entertained Keady in a re-fixture from a few weeks back, with both teams looking to put recent defeats behind them to continue the march up the league. The first score of the game came after ten minutes with Rory McKeever getting on the score sheet, but before all that a lot of missed chances and handling errors will not have pleased either side’s management. Keady responded in the 12th minute with a free, before going in front on 16 minutes with a point from play. Conal McKeever scored a free to level it all before Jonny McKeever was called into action making a good save, pushing the ball over the bar to put Keady a point up again. The teams exchanges points in the next few minutes, Ballyhegan’s coming from a free by Conal McKeever. Keady took the lead again a minute later before Conal McKeever drew the teams level again from a free. This was to be Ballyhegan’s last score of the half as Keady kicked two more score before half-time to leave the half-time score Ballyhegan 0-04 Keady 0-07.

Six minutes into the second half Ballyhegan got a point from Conal McKeever, after good work from Shane McCormack. Jonny McKeever was called into action again to make another good save, Roger McCormick made an important block on the rebounded shot to clear the lines. Keady scored a free before Jonny McKeever saved Ballyhegan for the 3rd time. Keady kicked the next two scores from play, a Conal McKeever free and a points from play from Tim Rafferty and Paul Nixon give Ballyhegan hope. Paul’s point was the best of the days as this involved five Ballyhegan men Jonny McKeever, Mark Hughes, Barry Morgan, Shane McKeever and Paul Nixon. More moves like this and Ballyhegan might have put Keady under more pressure throughout the day. Keady kicked the final two scores of the afternoon both frees from their number 14, to leave the final score Ballyhegan 0-08 Keady 0-12.

Three games inside a week was always going to be a tough ask for any team, but Ballyhegan will be disappointed to only get one win from the three. With three games left before the league splits Ballyhegan will be looking for another win to ensure a top 7 finish and hopefully kick on, in the second half of the league. Best on the day for Ballyhegan was Jonny McKeever, Roger McCormick and Mark Hughes again.
