Ballyhegan Davitts 2-14 Pearse Ogs 2-10

On a fine May afternoon, Ballyhegan’s Seniors’ were back in action against the Ogs, with the hosts keen to get back to winnings ways following Friday’s disappointing defeat.

The visitors began strongly, drawing an early free which was spurned, before earning another which was floated towards the square and flicked to the net by a Davitts defender for an own goal. A couple of Davitts’ wides followed, before the team hit their stride with points from Paul Nixon and the reliable Rory McKeever. In the next attack, Jack Rafferty lobbed the Ogs goalkeeper to find the net. The sides traded two points apiece before a barrage of points from the Davitts ended the half, with Jack adding to his tally through some excellent dead-ball strikes. A flowing team move ended with a goal from inside forward Stefan McNally, and an injury-time point from Paul Nixon gave the hosts a comfortable cushion at the break.

After the interval, Mark Hughes and Jack Rafferty added to the hosts tally, before the Ogs rattled off 3 points without reply. A fine solo effort from Paul Nixon pushed Ballyhegan further in front. A goal from an Ogs substitute gave the visitors hope, as they also claimed the next two scores. Late points from Conor Loughran and Jack Rafferty, the latter a neat move involving good movement from substitute Kyle Turbitt, left the hosts five in front. The final score came from the visitors, before referee Leon Reynolds brought proceedings to a close.

Overall, this was a mixed performance by the Davitts. Some fine team moves were interspersed with poor handling and unnecessary wides. With a short break ahead, the team will seek to improve their approach play and defence, as some difficult encounters lie ahead.

A final word of thanks to young James McCann for cutting both pitches during the week…a fine job James!
