Corrinshego v Ballyhegan Davitts

Ballyhegan travelled to St Coleman's College, Newry to take on Corrinshego on a fine sunny afternoon.
After a slight delay in the throw-in the action got under way and it was the Davitts who got off the mark first in the second minute through centre half forward John Guy pointing well following good build up play involving Conor Morgan, Eoin Reynolds, James McKeever and Paddy Marley who made his first start of the league campaign following a knee injury.
Corrinshego replied 3 minutes later with a point of their own before Ballyhegan hit 3 unanswered points, James McKeever with the first on 7 minutes followed by 2 in quick succession from Paddy Marley on 10 minutes, beating his marker before splitting the posts on both occasions.
Corrinshego pulled one back on 18 minutes but the Davitts, by this stage playing attractive football and moving the ball well, replied with a goal and 2 points. Eoin Reynolds was quick to capitalise on a mistake in the oppositions defence to open his account with a point. Paddy Marley then found the net with a well taken low drive to the corner after getting the better of his marker once more. James McKeever then benefitted from a quickly taken sideline ball to curl his effort over.
Full forward Shane McCormack added the Davitts final score of the half with a well taken score from the right in between 2 scores from Corrinshego.

Half time: Corrinshego 0-04 Ballyhegan 1-07

The second half was a one sided affair with the home team coming out well and dominating throughout. They brought the difference back to 4 points before hitting 2 goals and gaining a 2 point lead. They then added a further 3 points to their tally before the final whistle

Full time: Corrinshego 2-09 Ballyhegan 1-07

For the second game in a row Ballyhegan failed to build on a fantastic first half perfoemance. As disappointing as the second half performance was, it was made even worse by the fact that Ballyhegan failed to register a score in the second half.
A huge performance is needed in the next game at home to St Michael's, Newtownhamilton to get our first points on the board.

Ballyhegan team lined out as follows: J. McKeever, J. Murphy (c), R. McCormick, R. McKeever, C. Loughran, P. McCormack, C. Morgan, C. Williamson, M. Hughes, G. Morgan, J. Guy (0-01), J. McKeever (0-02), P. Marley (1-02), S. McCormack (0-01), E. Reynolds (0-01). Subs used: R. Tiffney, M. Hamill, P. Marley Jr, S. McNally, D. McKeever, T. Keegan
