Ballyhegan Davitts v Silverbridge Harps

On Wednesday night Silverbridge made the long trek North to Ballyhegan to compete under rainy skies, in a midweek SimplyFruit Intermediate League re-fixture.

Ballyhegan adjusted to the wet conditions early on, taking a 0.03 – 0.01 lead in the first five minutes, with a point from Eoin Reynolds and a brace of points from Conor Williamson.

By the quarter our mark, the South Armagh men started to find their feet, kicking four unanswered points to take a two point advantage.

On 20 Minutes, C Williamson surged up field and drove a long shot goal-wards, rattling the crossbar, but soon after wards Mark Hughes converted a long free kick, following excellent tackling from Jack Rafferty forcing a technical foul.

Silverbridge kicked another two points before the half time whistle, as did the hosts, first Jack Wilson from play, before Jonny McKeever, up from goals, converted a 45 deep in injury time.

The visitors took control at the start of the second half kicking another three points, and it could have been worse, only for an excellent intervention by Plunkett McCormack.

With a quarter of the game remaining, Davitts corner back Tony Keegan found space in the opposition half and attacked it, Jack Wilson hit a long ball forward to James McKeever, and laid a fine ball onto the on rushing Keegan, who clipped a super strike over the bar. Super score, drawing great applause from the spectators.

Eoin Reynolds drew a fine save from the opposition keeper a minute later, the shot looked destined for the top corner, after Jack Rafferty and Shane McCormack combined to create the chance.

Reynolds did manage his second score soon after, as he collected a fine long pass from Tony Keegan, and ably split the posts.

Silverbridge kicked on Paddy Marley had kicked the Davitts final score of the game, a sweetly struck free kick, however the men from South Armagh scored another three points to take both points home in a four point victory.

Once again, the Davitts were competitive, but for some misplaced passing and some wayward shooting, the win seemed there for

the taking.

In defence Joey Murphy’s fine form continues, and Roger McCormack had another strong performance.

Further up the field the work rate and passing of Jack Wilson continues to impress, whilst Jack Rafferty grows from strength to strength in the senior jersey
