Ballyhegan Davitts v Derrynoose

Ballyhegan were at home for the first time in 4 weeks on Sunday as they hosted Derrynoose in what was at times a heated affair.
Derrynoose got off to the nest possible start as they hit a goal with their forst attack in the opening minute, ensuring the Davitts back's would be against the wall from the off set. The Davitts replied with a point straight away from the boot of Paddy Marley. Derrynoose added another 2 unanswered as the half wore on with Conal McKeever registering Ballyhegan's second point from a free on 18 minutes. Conal again split the posts, this time from play, but it was in between 2 further scores from the visitors which left the hosts trailing at the interval.

Half time: Ballyhegan 0-03 Derrynoose 1-04

James McKeever struck first for Ballyhegan after the restart, linking up well with his cousin Rory. Derrynoose replied before 2 further points for the Davitts, the first from substitute Shane McKeever and the second from Jack Rafferty. Derrynoose hit a point to maintain a 3 point lead then immeadiately after scored another goal to take the wind out of the Davitts comeback. A Mark Hughes point reduced the gap to 5 but the Noose would go on to score 1-02 unanswered in the final 10 minutes to seal the points before substitute Conor Williamson registered a late consilation point from distance.

Full time: Ballyhegan 0-08 Derrynoose 3-08

A hugely disappointing day all round for the Davitts. The cause wasnt helped by losing the spine of the team in the opening quarter of the game as our full back went off injured, centre half back black carded and centre half forward also injured. Unfortunate as that was it is not an excuse for a poor display on the day. Fortunately now we have a break for 2 weeks to look at what went wrong and how to remedy it before travelling to Crossmaglen to get the second half of the season underway on 21st June.

Ballyhegan team lined out as follows: Jonny McKeever, Shane McKeever (James McAtarsney), Ronan Devlin, Roger McCormick, Rory McKeever, Mark McKeever (Joey Murphy), Tony Keegan, John Guy (Conor Williamson 0-01), Mark Hughes 0-01, Thomas Reynolds, Paddy Marley 0-01 (Shane McKeever 0-01), James McKeever 0-01, Conal McKeever 0-02 (1f) (Shane McCormack), Jack Rafferty 0-01, Paul Nixon
