Ballyhegan Summer Scheme / Youth Club 2012

Running for the week July 2nd to July 6th  2012 inclusive, the summer scheme with over eighty participants and ten leaders was lead by Michael Hamill Jnr, and his able assistants Chris Cullen, Shona Wilson, Sean McNally, James McKeever, Cathal Cullen, Aaron McNally, Shane Morgan, Eimear Murray, Martin McKeever, Helen McKeever and Jack Rafferty.

The program consisted of Gaelic Football on Monday, a sports day on Tuesday and hurling coaching on Wednesday, taken by Cúchulainn's Ronan McWilliams (Development officer for Hurling in Ulster) and Armagh Hurling Captain Ryan Gaffney and his brother  and u21 Armagh hurler  Shea  Gaffney from the Middletown club (All-Ireland Club Championship 2012 finalists).

Wednesday’s presentation of footballs to all participants was led by Davitt's club member and senior panelist  Sean McNally (Chairman of Queen’s University Gaelic football Club), and former Armagh inter county referee Jimmy McKee (principal of local primary school  St Oliver Plunkett’s Ballyhegan) as master of ceremonies.

Each participant was presented a football which was signed by all dignitaries present at a ceremony hosted by Michael Hamill.

Thursday was our annual outing to Loughgall Country Park where the incessant rain did not deter our intrepid band of participants.

Friday completed  the scheme  with a trip to Lisburn pool and Omniplex.
The youth club would like to thank Genevieve and Michael Hamill Snr in making the arrangements for this trip, and the SELB bus drivers who made this trip most memorable.

Eimear Murray, Shona Wilson and Helen McKeever ran an on going arts and crafts fair throughout the week in the committee room in Ballyhegan Park and in the Pavilion in Loughgall Country Park, where face painting, bracelet making and painted works of art were on display to the public on notice boards in Ballyhegan Park.

This was a very successful scheme. The summer scheme will run next year from July 1st to July 5th 2013 and will be published nearer the event.

The club would like to take this opportunity to thank the very enthusiastic participants and their parents and congratulate them on their extempore manner in which they conducted themselves. It is the youth clubs’ hope  that they  will all return with their friends next year!
